Christmas Eve service

On Wednesday evening, December 24th, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church will once again enjoy an evening of Lessons, Carols and Holy Eucharist.  The Church will be most festive with candlelight and the fact that the church has been 'greened'.  Plan to join us at 5:30 pm for this most meaningful worship time.

Put it on your calendar.  Wednesday, December 24 at 5:30 is our annual Christmas Eve service that consists of Lessons & Carols, and Holy Eucharist.  There will be special music, in addition to the familiar carols of the season.
Another “put it on your calendar” – at 9:00 on Sunday, December 7th, the Bell Choir will again minister to us in their music.  This is always an enjoyable and meaningful way to begin our morning of worship.  Won’t you join us at 9:00?

Advent is soon upon us – a time for watching and preparing and planning.  During this season, we meet together on Thursday evenings at 5:30 for soup suppers, sharing and worship.  On Thursday, the 4th, we will sing Christmas Carols.  On the 11th and 18th, other events are being arranged.  Plan to join us for these meaningful evenings that we share with each other.

Plans are being made for the Good Shepherd singers to sing at the Long Term Care facility at one time in December.  More details to follow.

We give you thanks, O God, we give you thanks, calling upon your name…      Psalm 75 1:a

< < < < < < < < < < > > > > > > > > > > December 29 – Thomas Becket was born in 1118, and as a young man, after he was ordained a deacon, he was appointed Archdeacon of Canterbury.  King Henry II appointed him Chancellor of England.  The king then secured his election as Archbishop of Canterbury, which made Becket a ‘shepherd of souls’.  Later he defended the interests of the church against those of his former patron, the King.  Due to the breakdown of a fragile reconciliation between the king and Becket, four barons struck Becket down with their swords.  His final words to the four barons were: ‘Willingly I die for the name of Jesus and in the defense of the Church.’         Holy Women, Holy Men

Collect for Thomas Becket – O God, our
strength and our salvation, you called your
servant Thomas Becket to be a shepherd of
your people and a defender of your Church:
Keep your household from all evil and raise up among us faithful pastors and leaders who are wise in the ways of the Gospel; through Jesus Christ the shepherd of our souls, who lives and
reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever.   Amen.

Prayer for Guidance: O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light rises up in the darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our
doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what you would have us to do, that the Spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that
in your light we may see light, and in your
straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord.    Amen          BCP, pg. 832

Who Knew – Uses for WD-40
- Stops crutches from squeaking.
- Softens soft leather
- Spray down the blade of snowplows or snow shovels – it helps make the snow ‘roll’ right off
- Removes duct tape
[Editor’s note – I have not tried these, but – WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company.  The project was to find a ‘water displacement’ compound.  They were successful with the 40th formulation. – Thus WD-40.  There is nothing in WD-40 that will hurt one.]
