November 1 – All Saints’ Day – it is believed by many scholars that the commemoration of all the saints on this day originated in Ireland.  It was adopted by Rome early in the ninth century.  But – a man called the ‘Wonder Worker’ wrote before the year 270 of the observance of a festival of all martyrs.  In the 1979 Prayer Book, All Saints’ Day is classed as a Principal Feast, taking precedence of any other day or observance.  Among the seven Principal Feasts so classified, All Saints’ Day alone may be observed on the following Sunday, in addition to its fixed date.

‘The role of Faith: Fear imprisons, faith liberates; fear paralyzes, faith empowers; fear disheartens, faith encourages; fear sickens, faith heals; fear makes useless, faith makes serviceable – and, most of all, fear puts hopelessness at the heart of life, while faith rejoices in its God.’              -- Copied

‘Greatness is not found in possessions, power, position, or prestige.  It is discovered in goodness, humility, service, and character.”

Collect for All Saints – Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting.  Amen.

The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it, the world and all who dwell therein.  For it is he who founded it upon the seas and made it firm upon the rivers of the deep.  --Psalm 24:1-2

Prayer for Guidance: Direct us, O Lord, in all our doings with thy most gracious favor, and further us with thy continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in thee, we may glorify thy holy Name, and finally, by thy mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen          BCP, pg. 831

Who Knew – Uses for WD-40
- Protects silver from tarnishing
- Removes road tar and grime from cars
- Cleans and lubricates guitar strings
- Removes bees wax
- Keeps flies off cows
- Restores and cleans chalkboards
- Cleans dust from artificial flowers
[Editor’s note – I have not tried these, but – WD-40 was created in 1953 by three technicians at the San Diego Rocket Chemical Company.  The project was to find a ‘water displacement’ compound.  They were successful with the 40th formulation. – Thus WD-40.  There is nothing in WD-40 that will hurt one.]

November is coming...

There is a special event in this upcoming November that you can put on your calendar.
On Tuesday, November 25th, at 11:30 we at Good Shepherd will host the Bear Lodge students and staff for our annual Thanksgiving meal.  The students help to make the pies and they peel the potatoes on the day before the meal.  On Tuesday we feast on turkey and all the trimmings.    Parishioners are encouraged to join us for the meal.  Bring a side dish that has special meaning in your own Thanksgiving meal.
During the month, we will have Holy Eucharist at 9:30 on Sundays dated November 2, 9, 23 and 30.  On Sunday November 16, Morning Prayer will be read.
