September 2015

Our Episcopal bishop - the Rt. Rev. John Smylie - joins us at Good Shepherd on Saturday, September 19 and Sunday, September 20 for his annual visitation.  Included in this visit will be a celebration of the 125th Anniversary of the Groundbreaking for Good Shepherd.

We will have a 'mini-groundbreaking' about 4:00 on Saturday afternoon, and then there will be a time of questions and answers, as well as information shared from the bishop and the congregation.

On Sunday, at 9:30, the Bishop will lead us with his preaching, and presiding at the Lord's Table during the morning worship service.  Included in the worship time will be a confirmation liturgy for those from Holy Trinity, Gillette, who are ready for confirmation.  A brunch will be enjoyed by all after the morning worship.

We recently held a House Mass and potluck supper in the home of Good Shepherd parishioners.  This was a fun time, and a meaningful service as we worshiped using the Wyoming Eucharist liturgy.  The meal had a Mexican theme, and everything was delicious, as was to be expected.

Holy Eucharist at 9:00 and Bible study at 9:30 continue on Tuesday morning in the Parish Hall.

August, 2015

August is soon upon us and even though we have few meetings scheduled, this is a busy month.  Locally, this is Fair Week and we are in the beginning days of the 75th Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.  Even though Sundance isn't Sturgis, we see the effects of the rally with visitors from all over the country and even from other countries as well.

Norma Watt's Memorial Service will be at 11:00 on Saturday, August 8th at Good Shepherd.

Holy Eucharist is scheduled for Sundays - August 2, August 9, and August 23 - all at 9:30 am.
Morning Prayer is scheduled for Sundays - August 16 and August 30 - also at 9:30 am.
Weekday Holy Eucharist services are usually on Tuesday mornings at 9:00 with Bible study following at 9:30.  All are welcome to any or all of the services.

June 2015

Today is June 1, and on Sunday, the 7th, our own Rose Zella and Dick Proctor will be included as honorees at the Old Settlers' Picnic at Devils Tower.  There will be no entrance fee for those attending the picnic, and the festivities will be located at the picnic grounds.  In the morning, a church service is planned and then about 12:30 the picnic and festivities begin.

At Good Shepherd on the 7th, Morning Prayer will be read.  The service will conclude  early enough so that those who wish to go to the picnic at Devils Tower will have plenty of time to drive there.

This week is the first week we will have Holy Eucharist on Wednesday at 9:00 and Bible study follows at 9:30.  We continue to use the Diocese of West Texas and their Bible study on the Letters of Paul to the Galatians and the first of his letters to the Thessalonians.  This is a very interesting study, and we get into some good discussions.  If you wish to check the website out, go to www.dwtx.org   When the website is open, click on Resources, then Bible study, then Galatians.  The study is designed for use by a group or an individual.  Join us in the parish hall at 9:30 for study, discussion and coffee.

Happenings at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Sundance, WY

Tomorrow night, Wednesday May 27th, our bishop, the Rt. Rev. John Smylie, joins us for an evening of good food and good music.  Our meal will begin at 5:30 in the parish hall, and it will feature brisket, salads and dessert.  After the meal, Bp. John will present an evening of original music.  He considers his music as a vital part of his ministry.  We will have the opportunity to buy one, or two, or even three of his CDs for only $10 each.  Half of the proceeds will be given in outreach to our local Food Pantry.  Join us at 5:30 for an evening to remember.

April 2015

After the busyness of March and the Lenten season, we are settling down to a more quiet pace at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church during this Easter season.  We do continue to have Holy Eucharist on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 and Bible study follows at 10:30.  Beginning this week we will be using the West Texas Episcopal Diocese website for our Bible study.  There are a series of studies on the various letters of St. Paul; we have chosen to begin the study on the Letter to the Ephesians.

March happenings

Because the church season is now Lent, the month of March has additional events.
As always, most Wednesdays include Holy Eucharist at 10:00 and Bible study at 10:30.
Soup suppers are scheduled for Thursday evenings at 5:30.  After supper, our study will be 'A Journey through the Book of Common Prayer' - including a look at the historical documents of the church, a look at some of the alternate services of worship, and even more. We close with sharing a short worship service.  At noon on Fridays, we 'journey' through the Stations of the Cross.  Looking at the last Sunday of March, the Liturgy of the Palms will be a part of our worship; we begin in the parish hall and then proceed outside to the front door of the church to begin the Palm Sunday liturgy and Eucharist.

February happennings

The month of January is coming to a close and February will soon be here.  February worship services will include Holy Eucharist at 9:30 on Sundays - February 1st, 8th, and 22nd.  Morning Prayer is to be at 9:30 on Sunday, the 15th of February.
Good Shepherd provides a spaghetti lunch for the students and staff of the local Bear Lodge High School.  This year, the Annual Spaghetti lunch will begin at 11:15 in the church parish hall on Friday, February 6th.  All are invited to join us.
Good Shepherd men are once again putting on a Shrove Tuesday Pancake supper on Tuesday, February 17th from 5:00 to 7:00.  This occurs in the parish hall of the church; a free will offering will be accepted.
The Ash Wednesday service this year is scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, February 18th.  This service is a meaningful way to begin a Holy Lent.
Thursday, February 26th, is the evening for our first Lenten soup supper.  This will begin at 5:30 in the parish hall.  Rev. Steve Christy will share highlights of his recent trip to Greece, and I understand the meal will have a Greek 'flavor'. This sounds to be a most meaningful and special evening - won't you join us?
